Damage guide

A clear path when something goes wrong.

Last updated: September 30, 2026

Most rentals go smoothly. If an item is damaged or does not look right, documentation and prompt communication help everyone reach a fair outcome.

1. Document at handoff

Owners should photograph the item before handoff. Renters should inspect it, take a few photos, and report a visible problem before use. This protects both people and creates a clear record of the item condition.

2. Report problems promptly

If there is damage, a malfunction, an accident, theft, loss, or an injury, the Renter should notify the Owner as soon as practical and contact emergency services first if there is an emergency. Keep relevant messages, photos, and reports.

3. Document the return

At return, both parties should take photos. Owners should inspect equipment promptly and, if needed, submit supporting information before the item is rented to someone else. A claim should reflect reasonable repair or loss, not ordinary wear and tear.

4. AYCR can help review

AYCR may collect available documentation and help the parties communicate. Renters may have an opportunity to respond to a claim. AYCR is not an insurer and does not guarantee a claim outcome. See the Damage, Loss, and Claims Policy for the governing details.
